Conservative Leader Bill Gothard Resigns Following Abuse Allegations

220px-Bill_Gothard_03Bill Gothard, an Illinois-based advocate for home schooling and conservative who warned against rock music and debt, has resigned from the ministry he founded after allegations of sexually harassing women who worked at his ministry and failing to report child abuse cases.

Gothard’s resignation from the Institute in Basic Life Principles, according to a letter sent to families affiliated with the ministry he founded, comes a week after he was put on administrative leave. According to an organizer involved in the whistle-blowing website Recovering Grace, 34 women told the website they had been sexually harassed; four women alleged molestation.

    • I agree… But perhaps this is a good sign that the Lord is cleaning house and young pastors like you will be more faithful standard bearers for the King of kings. :)

      • Indeed, it makes me realize how important it is to look at one’s motive in ministry; I think an underlying current behind a lot of these sexual sins and authoritarian control is pride and ministry that’s “successful” can feed that. It makes me realize the importance of boundaries in ministry as guard rails but one must not forget the heart and the importance of daily confessions, Gospel driven obedience and living to please Him.
